Roland S. Jefferson was born in Washington, DC but moved to Los Angeles at 6 years of age. He is a product of the Los Angeles public system and attended the University Of Southern California where he received his BA degree. He began writing during his college years. During the turbulent civil rights era he then relocated to Washington DC for Grad school at Howard University. He then did a two year stint as a medical officer in the U.S. Air Force where he continued writing book and film reviews. After military service he penned his first novel, the highly acclaimed SCHOOL ON 103RD STREET now considered a classic canon in African American political fiction frequently taught in black Literary courses on the college level. It was chosen by the L.A. Times Book Review for inclusion in its Guide To Literary Los Angeles 2000.
Alice In Dreamland is his 7th novel, a fictionalized political thriller in the wake of the failed January 6 political coup.
He has also written for film and TV. His screenplay for the 1976 Feature film DISCO 9000 was a major financial box-office success. His 1979 teleplay ANGEL DUST, THE WACK ATTACK for ABC’s Movie-of-The-Week won an Emmy for Best Director for Oscar Williams and best Actor for Phillip Michael Thomas of Miami Vice fame.
