Seconde Nimenya is an author of fiction and nonfiction books, including her award-winning memoir, Evolving Through Adversity, a story of her life journey in which she shares the life lessons she has learned along the way to inspire others. Her second book, A Hand to Hold is an inspirational novel of love, healing and redemption. And her third book, A Leader’s Companion Workbook to Evolving Through Adversity is filled with leadership insights for personal and professional development.
In her forthcoming book, A Long Way to School: A Story of Overcoming Challenges and Never Giving Up, Nimenya shares insights and perspectives that will inspire a generation of young readers to overcome adversities in school and in their personal lives.
Seconde Nimenya is a native of Burundi, in East- Africa, studied business administration in Canada where she lived more than 10 years, before moving to the United States of America, where she received her MBA. She blends her varied cultural and educational backgrounds to create dynamic presentations, using a unique approach that is both inspiring and empowering. Nimenya has given presentations at conferences and educational institutions throughout the United States and the world; supporting organizations and educational institutions in their mission to become prominent global leaders in diversity and inclusion.
She is a firm believer that despite social identities such as race, gender, ethnicity, political affiliation, religion, or sexual orientation, we are far more alike than different. She advocates for diversity and inclusion in the workplace and the educational systems, as well as raises key global issues such as the violence against women, child marriage and education for girls.
Her TEDx talk on race and other Identity Constructs, “We Are Not All That Different” has been hailed as the most inspirational TEDx talk for our times. As a frequent keynote speaker, trainer and advocate, Nimenya inspires people on how to bridge the gaps between diverse and multicultural communities.
Nimenya lives in Seattle, Washington State, with her family.
