Author Wu Sing-yung (Wu Xingyong) . He was born in Sichuan in 1939 and moved to Taiwan in 1949. He completed his undergraduate study at the National University of Taiwan (Taida) in 1963. He obtained a Ph.D. in experimental pathology from the University of Washington, Seattle (in 1969) and a medical doctor’s degree at Johns Hopkins University (in 1972). In 1990, he was promoted to Full Professor, Radiological Sciences and Medicine Departments, College of Medicine, at the University of California, Irvine.
His research and clinical interest were in thyroid hormone metabolism and the management of thyroid diseases. He authored, edited, and contributed to medical books and over a hundred peer-reviewed medical papers. He has had a long-term interest in research concerning the development of a novel fetal thyroid function marker (W-compound) that may improve the management of congenital hypothyroidism.
He also has a keen interest in and affinity for modern Chinese history stemming from his father’s role in the establishment of Taiwan as Free China and his own experience as a child on the mainland and later in Taiwan. He has authored and edited five books tracing the facts surrounding the gold shipped from the Shanghai National Vault to Taiwan from 1948 to 1949 during the Chinese Civil War. These books were written in Chinese and published both on the Mainland and in Taipei. This is his first English language book regarding Chinese History.
