Viki McCabe was a cognitive scientist who had a passion for understanding the interconnectedness of the world’s natural systems, as well as the effects of humankind’s interaction with, and often interruption of, those systems. She authored another book, Coming to Our Senses: Perceiving Complexity to Avoid Catastrophes, in 2014, and wrote two children’s titles for Scribners under the name Viki Holland. She resided in a cabin on Puget Sound with her spouse, surrounded by wildlife. Outside of her writing and research, Viki designed prizewinning Japanese gardens.
