The dramatic decay of the entertainment industry fueled a desire to write novels that glorified God and were safe to read. He felt that there had to be a way to entertain readers without attacking Christian or traditional values. This led to the publication of Open Windows.

He and his wife, Darnell, have three children and two grandchildren. They live near the Pearl River north of New Orleans, Louisiana.
