I was born in Germany while my father was stationed there as a sergeant in the Air Force. My family moved every three or four years whenever my father was assigned to another air base. Over the years, I lived in Germany, Spain, the Midwest, and the east coast of the United States.
When I was 18, I learned Transcendental Meditation. I found it very beneficial at the time. The only problem was, after listening to some scathing criticism of TM from my pastor one Sunday morning in church, I decided to part ways with the religion I was raised in and dogma-based belief systems in general. The decision didn’t sit well with my parents and caused some tension between us for a while.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where I studied journalism and started learning new meditation techniques. Many years later, I tried Reiki and eventually completed the three levels of Usui Reiki taught outside of Japan. I live with my wife, son, and daughter in Massachusetts.
