2 Great Plays
Lauri Bortz, author

To-Night at 8:00 features Lauri Bortz's first published works, two one-act tragicomedies, A Modicum of Passion and Fixed. These plays explore a bizarre yet familiar world imbued with mutant social codes and jolted by rude awakenings. The book is illustrated with 24 pen and ink drawings by New York artist J.D. Fleishman, who has exhibited internationally.

Avant garde composer Elliott Sharp scored a chamber opera based on A Modicum of Passion, which debuted in New York City, on the Bowery, in 2004 and was subsequently released on CD.

This book (comprised of 2 truly great plays) is just marvelous. It's just so....weird. How did Lauri Bortz think of the plots, the characters, the everything? The writing is impeccable, the style unique and engaging, and the format is really lovely, with sturdy paper and whimsical illustrations that truly enhance the whole package. It's a shame no one reads anymore, else I'd be more shocked that more people haven't picked this up and embraced it! If you like satire, strangeness, absolute absurdity, and just witty, wacky, well-crafted entertainment, this is for you!
