Three years ago, St. Pete Beach, FL. Parker, a data scientist of some repute, tattled to the FBI on Meredith, his business partner, who planned to defraud investors in their struggling startup. Meredith set Parker up to be ambushed by a former Navy Seal so she could take control of their company and prevent his testimony against her. Parker outwitted her by hiding his wife, Paula, in their boathouse with a gun. When the Seal ambushed Parker with a shotgun, Meredith fled the scene, but Paula lost her cool and shot the Seal in the back, paralyzing him from the waist down. Parker took responsibility for the shooting, assuming he’d be found innocent under Florida’s stand-your-ground laws and was shocked to be convicted of the cowardly assault on an Iraq war hero. While incarcerated, Parker testified against Meredith and she was incarcerated as well. Present day, Atlanta suburbs. Parker’s Choice is the story of a man with a felonious past he can’t escape, a disintegrating marriage, an unsolicited attraction to a female colleague, and a fruitless search for his birth father. Parker has taken the only job he could find with an Indian Offshore Outsourcing Company that supplants American workers with cheap labor in India, and his boss coerces him to commit fraud to displace hundreds of workers in Iowa. On the Fourth of July, under cover of a fireworks display, Meredith sneaks into Parker’s backyard and offers him a settlement agreement. Before he can consider it, Paula takes a shot at Meredith and chases her into the woods adjoining his backyard. When a body is pulled from the Chattahoochee River, Parker fears Paula has murdered Meredith. The cops suspect Parker committed the murder, but Parker sends Paula to an alcohol rehab facility in Florida to protect her. Parker and his colleague, Sabrina, collect evidence of the fraud but exposing it will cost Parker his job. The evidence also implicates a man, Jack Shaw, whom Parker believes is his birth father, although Shaw vehemently denies it. When the body pulled from the Chattahoochee River is identified as Meredith’s sister, Grace, the cops suspect Parker has murdered both sisters, but Meredith is very much alive and blackmailing Parker with an eyewitness account of Paula killing Grace. Angered by his lack of trust in her, Paula begins an affair with another patient and files for a divorce. With nothing to lose, Parker and Sabrina travel to New Orleans where Parker is to present the fraudulent proposal to an Iowa insurance company. Sabrina tempts Parker to spend the night with her, but Parker chooses to remain faithful to Paula. Rejected, Sabrina runs away. Parker chooses to expose the fraud only to find that the insurance company was in on the scheme. For exposing the fraud, Parker is fired. Parker has choices to make: let Paula pay for the murder, or solve the murder mystery and discredit Meredith; try to save his marriage or pursue Sabrina. The solution to the riddle of his birth father’s identity ultimately provides the solution to the murder mystery and the motivation to make the right choices about his personal life.
