It's hard to classify this book. It's a novel about a detective, but it's not a detective novel. It's a story about a romance, but it's not a romance novel. There's murder but it's not a thriller. I don't usually read detective novels or romance novels or thrillers, so that was fine with me. What I like to read are stories. This is simply a story. Wolf has created these characters, and for better or worse, they remain true to themselves - and to each other. The language is plain and unflowery; the story is not complicated. It's classic Wolf DeVoon - he's got a definite style. It's old-fashioned, maybe. But it's relaxed and natural. (4 stars)
