A Skeptic's Journey Through the Yoga Experience
A Skeptic’s Journey Through the Yoga Experience takes a hard and personal look by one who once held deep skepticism about yoga at the history, the myths, the controversies, the practice, the philosophy, the growth, commercialism of, and impact of yoga. The book examines the racial and gender conceptions and controversies that confront yoga, as well as the controversy and debate over the physical hazards of yoga to men especially. A Skeptic’s Journey Through the Yoga Experience is a small primer that aims to give a skeptic’s impressions of some of the hot button issues and controversies in the yoga world. It in no way pretends to be a comprehensive and definitive study of yoga. The author intersperses throughout the book the three years of notes in his journal that gives his reflections, insights, feelings, and thoughts about the various poses, movements, and mental and physical changes and benefits of yoga.

Noted Political Author Takes a hard Hitting Revealing Personal look at the Fact

In A Skeptic’s Journey Through The Yoga Experience, noted political analyst, media commentator and author, Earl Ofari Hutchinson steps out of his prime area of notoriety and expertise, namely politics, to take readers on his personal exploration of the world of yoga. For years, Hutchinson, has trained, studied, and practiced yoga philosophy and techniques. He started out by his own admission as the skeptic’s skeptic about yoga. He regarded it as something for mystics, health food fadists, and women. This notion went spinning when Hutchinson found that yoga improved his flexibility and created a more relaxed mood. This was especially important to counter the intense daily stresses that come with being a political analyst and commentator.

In A Skeptic’s Journey Through The Yoga Experience, Hutchinson takes the reader on his excursion through the yoga experience. He looks at the history, the myths, the controversies, the practice, the philosophy, the growth, commercialism of, and impact of yoga. He examines the racial and gender conceptions and controversies that confront yoga, as well as the controversy and debate over the physical hazards of yoga to men especially.

“Yoga dates back more than 5000 years,” says Hutchinson, “So, I emphasize that this is a small primer solely to give a skeptic’s impressions of some of the hot button issues and controversies in the yoga world. The book in no way pretends to be a comprehensive and definitive study of yoga. There is a library full of books and studies that examine in depth the history, philosophy, and practices of yoga, as well as the many schools of yoga.”

During his years of yoga practice, Hutchinson kept a journal noting his feelings, and thoughts about the various poses, movements, and mental and physical changes and benefits of yoga. He intersperses his yoga journal notes throughout A Skeptic’s Journey Through The Yoga Experience. The aim is to personalize the huge impact that yoga has had on his life and the lives of millions of Americans.

“Yoga makes many claims physical, mental and spiritual, some it fulfills, others are doubtful,” says Hutchinson, ”I take a forthright personal look at them as a wildly popular practice and philosophy.”

A Skeptics Journey Through The Yoga Experience is his effort to provide a unique, and compelling, journey through that experience.
