If you like fast paced supernatural thrillers, you will love this book. But it's so much more than your average page turner novel about a man who unwittingly is turned into a werewolf. It's got a noir detective style that's also clever and witty. With the first person perspective, you really get a sense of what it's like for Thomas Spell, his everyday trials and frustrations, some funny and some scary, that come with being unable to control his transformation into a wolf-man when he least expects or wants it.
Not only is the plot strong and consuming, what's unusual about this story is the sentence level writing. It's very visual and full of descriptive imagery that pulls you in and makes you feel like you're right there with him in the midst of the action. This makes reading it seem effortless, as if you were watching it on film.
Although there are plenty of creepy supernatural elements, as you would expect, the overall feeling is that of a dectective story told by.a regular, likable guy who is trying to solve the mystery of how this happened to him and how he can hopefully overcome it.
I'm looking forward to the sequel!
This was a great read. Andrew is a very talented writer. His descriptive prose keeps you entertained and engaged throughout the entire book. His dry sense of humor will have you laughing out loud. For those who have an affinity for the occult, or feel that Vampires walk in the shadows, you will love this book. It is full of twists and turns. The entire book moves like the wind, never letting you rest, until you get to the end, and luckily find out, that there is more to come. Really looking forward to Andrew's sequel to "A Wolf Like Me."
The unexpected entanglement of dark forces is revealed in a race for clarity and survival. Each turn is fascinating and unpredictable. You are swept up in a journey with an anti-hero that needs to know how his life has been hijacked by love and cursed by violence and terror. This is a rewarding read from start to finish, and you will want more!
