From the July 25th edition of The Montana Standard newspaper.
A former Butte resident, Roderick Cyr, has written a new novel, “An Accidental Abduction."
’Cyr grew up in Butte and attended McKinley School, West Junior High and Butte High. He was active in athletics, including running full marathons. His family moved to the East Coast his senior year.
Following a stint in the Army, he received a bachelor’s degree from William & Mary and a master’s of business administration from the University of Rochester, N.Y. “I then began a career in corporate finance with no plans of becoming a writer. In fact, I had always struggled with any college writing assignment that required more than four or five pages of text. But while working as the CFO of a small start-up I began penning my first book,’’ he writes in an email to The Montana Standard.
Nine months later, he completed the project and published the book.“I enjoyed the experience so thoroughly I decided to exit the corporate world and devote myself full-time to writing,’’ he said.
The novel takes readers across the world to Morocco and introduces them to a cast of characters. It focuses on heroine Katy Byrd, who travels to Casablanca with friends from church, hopeful the experience will transform her ordinary life and allow her to accomplish something meaningful.
However, while shopping at a bazaar one afternoon Katy inadvertently separates from her group and gets lost. Local terrorists monitoring the Americans capitalize on the opportunity and kidnap her. That sequence of events turns life upside-down for Katy and thrusts her into a harrowing scenario that’s far from routine.
