A true love story that begins with a lot of fun but ends in the tragedy of Ashlyn finding she had inherited Huntington’s Disease [HD] from her father. HD runs in families. We managed for a while with Art therapy, massage, and beauty treatments but there is no known medical cure for this neurodegenerative disease. I can cause movement disorders, repeated dangerous falls, mood swings, personality difficulties and judgement issues. Historically, HD was often misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s Disease, MS or even Schizophrenia. In Ashlyn’s case the Art therapy helped by increasing the neuroplasticity in her brain and she showed a real talent for painting.
Recent advances in modern medicine include “gene silencing” that is showing promising results if the disease is caught early enough. Even an embryo can be tested for HD.
