I'm not part of this book's target audience (Boomers) so I admit to having some initial reservations (was I gonna get anything out of this book or was it going to be a boring read?) but those were all dispelled within the first few pages.

"Awakening In The Northwest Territories" follows one man's life from growing up in a strict English household to his move to Canada to his retirement to his subsequent search for fulfillment. It's an engrossing read, you will learn a lot about the Dene culture (he takes great pains to describe them and their way of life) and the various challenges they face. I found myself wondering how to let them keep their own culture (and not only them, other people like them) while helping them harvest the benefits of ours (Like: how do you keep them living in the moment while also bringing in the benefits of planning for tomorrow? Still haven't figured it out.).

I also found myself reflecting on my own life, this book will definitely encourage you to do so as well. Although Mr. Henry and I are at opposite ends of the spectrum (He retired and me just beginning my career) I too have wondered why we strive so hard for money when there's much more to life. What things are the most important in the long run?

To sum it up: this is a thought-provoking memoir and I highly recommend it to all ages. You will not be disappointed you picked it up.
