The Midnight Marauder, John Crudder, has once again taken to the road to capture the very evil Butch Granger and his three friends in Bad to the Bone by Roy Clinton. When Butch arrives in Bandera and kills Jack and Thelma, an elderly couple John and his family know well, in a very violent and senseless way, John knows he must follow their trail and bring them to justice. As he follows their path through many small towns, he finds that Butch has killed many more seniors as well as a young child, dogs, cats and horses, all of them brutally and with much more extra force than needed. Butch is known, feared and wanted in many of the towns John travels through and the more he hears, the more he learns how evil Butch is. Butch has no conscience and has enjoyed hurting people since he was a young boy just because he could. This makes John even more anxious to stop him as quickly as possible.
Bad to the Bone: A Midnight Marauder Adventure is an old-time western story with adventure, excitement, and surprises that kept me reading late into the night. I have very quickly become a fan of the Midnight Marauder series and Roy Clinton’s writing. He has a perfect knack of making the story very real while keeping all of the fictional elements as well. Bad to the Bone is a winner, as is the whole series. If you enjoy a good old fashioned cowboy story, this is a must-read for young and old. It is a well written, clean story without cursing or sex scenes; just a good, solid book.
