We are taught revenge is wrong, and that those who do good or evil get what they deserve. But whose job is it to ensure that such divine justice is carried out?
Alessandra Genovese, tired of seeing the innocent suffer and the guilty prosper, joins a secret group that speaks to divine messengers who guide them to carry out acts of divine justice outside of the law:
Balancers
But... a murderer is loose in the city. Will Alessandra and the Balancers be able to help authorities stop the killing and catch the assassin before another innocent dies?
Assessment:
Plot: While the plot does contain some intricacies, it remains a bit tepid and slow. Events are presented linearly, with a degree of mystery that helps propel the conflict.
Prose/Style: The writing is consistent throughout, serviceable, and even in tone with occasional flourishes of figurative writing.
Originality: The concept of a group who do actions to right wrongs based on divine guidance is unique and has potential for ethical dilemmas that the book largely leaves unchallenged.
Character Development: While characterization largely functions in service to the plot here, characters do have unique wrinkles or provocative thoughts that help the story’s efforts to rise above typical genre fare.

What would you do if you could right the wrongs that people do or reward the rights that people do? Would you take that task on? Alessandra thought she could take this task on but it didn’t go as she planned. This was a unique story that totally had me hooked from the get go.
This is a really fun and surprisingly deep exploration of philosophy by way of action-packed urban fantasy. I loved the characters and the underlying lore. It's the kind of book that will appeal to YA fans and mature genre readers alike. Great read, and highly recommended.
Balancers by M.C. Alexander is an urban fantasy novel about balancing the scales of justice. The main character Alessandra discovers she can do something about the injustices she finds around her. Hurt and outraged by a family tragedy, she, with the help of a secret society, begins to right wrongs and even repays good deeds. But can she help catch a killer? If you've ever wondered why the powers that be seem to get away with everything, and the innocent seem to suffer the most and wish someone would do something about it, this is the book you've been waiting for.
M.C. Alexander has created a fantasy novel in more ways than one. Yes, it has characters that are divine and operate on a different level, but it is also a fantasy novel in that if you've ever met people who wish they could set wrongs right again, or make things even, or stand up for the little people in the world, this amazing story will really get to you. Social justice comes in many forms, and when Alessandra enters the picture, you can easily put yourself in her place. The author has a good way of showing the aftermath of crime and the impact on victims, and you will root for justice to prevail. The plot is compelling, the characters are believable, and the pacing is just right. Although revenge is supposed to be wrong, could divine justice taste sweet? That is what this novel is all about. The forces of good and evil sometimes clash, and if you like battles of the fantasy sort, you'll be entertained by this engrossing read. Fans of The Equalizer will love this emotionally stirring, imaginative work by M.C. Alexander.
It is with great pride and joy that I announce the official launch of Balancers, a new Urban Fantasy in the "low concept" subgenre. This genre-bending speculative fiction has been received quite well in the Advance Review Copy period, and I look forward to sharing this story with readers!
