Contessa is the daughter of the Chief of Royal Police in a Victorian London overrun by magical street gangs. When The Beast, the most feared gang leader in London, who is impeccable at hiding his tracks, unexpectedly asks for her hand in marriage, Contessa accepts. After all, the Beast murdered her mother, and this will be the perfect chance to bring him down from the inside. As Contessa enters the lion's den though, she finds that everybody has secrets, not least of all her new husband. Now, she must question what side she is really on, and why she is so drawn to a man she is supposed to hate.
