Both a survey of patristic deification teaching East and West and a new slant on the teaching showing, in the author's scripturally based opinion, where orthodoxy might have more logically followed Origen and some of the Western patristics' (Hilary, Augustine, Aquinas, etc.) ideas about essence and participation in God.
