Boxes of Love
The pandemic was difficult but not impossible with the help of our local schools and farmers. Join Mason on a mission to find out how they helped and how he found a way to say, “Thank you.” This is a story celebrating love and unity. Meal boxes (or bags) have been distributed to students around the United States since the COVID-19 pandemic began. School nutrition staff members work tirelessly to craft each box or bag for students without question, including food from local farmers, businesses, food banks, and other groups. This book celebrates their efforts from the voice of a child. With the unity so often displayed by school nutrition staff, it has been translated into Spanish (en español) on the same pages where the English text appears to offer an inclusive experience.

A wonderful perspective of love and hope

Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2021

This book was an exciting way to show the adventure and the hard work our community has gone through to have keep our children fed. We all know how important the food boxes have been on our community but the child in the book allows our children to gain perspective that the boxes don't just magically appear. It shows how important our entire community is and how much love is put in every box.

I also love that it is in both English and Spanish. My children are learning Spanish and having a book written in both languages allows them an opportunity to read in Spamsh but have the English to guide them and reassure they are understanding what they read.

I recommend this to any reader, not just the children. It is fun and will warm your heart.

Review from an advanced reader copy.

Antonik shares personal background, heroes through her books

Standing in line to receive food boxes with her kids and other families during the COVID-19 pandemic gave Jennifer Antonik a new perspective.

It wasn’t just food she and her family were receiving from the cafeteria staff at a local school — it was love and a nice reminder that people still care, even during uncertain times.

It also gave Mrs. Antonik, a budding author of children’s books, the idea and inspiration for her latest work, “Boxes of Love.” Read more.
