Every Bird Loves to Hear Himself Sing...
To her aunt and cousins, Ophélie Davenport is as wise as she is inaccessible. Behind her gaze she hides a harrowing past, one she must confront when her uncle and guardian inherits Baudières—the ghostly estate from which Ophélie was banished as a child.
The year is 1881, and the Belle Epoque is arriving to sweep away the remnants of France’s old world order. But the glitzy, gated community to which Ophélie returns is unrecognisable in its own way; this village has eyes, and a shadow that seems to anticipate her every move.
Ophélie’s sole comfort can be found in enigmatic artist Romain Lavarre, the only gentleman in the village whose estate is subject to the same surveillance as her own.
As she and Romain unmask their oppressor, Ophélie will ultimately have to risk her life to discover her piece in this decade-long puzzle of murder, obsession, and belonging.
