“When I opened the book Felix & Booboo, I was immediately engaged by the story and colorful illustrations. My first thought was, “My son’s a paramedic. I have to get these for my grandchildren!” What a fun way to explain what Daddy does every day. As I read further, I realized Dr. Nicole’s series would be an invaluable resource for my ESL teaching. I plan on ordering the whole set, half for my family and half to take back to China. Thank you, Dr. Nicole, for writing a book that teaches health to children across cultures. “

Charles Hurt Himself Playing: Broken Arm (Felix and Booboo) by Dr Nicole Audet tell readers about how broken bones can heal. Charles and his friend Felix are swinging in the park. Charles is swinging very high. He loses control and lands in the sandbox. Crying, Charles says that his arm is crooked and is hurting. Felix decides to call 911 and take Charles to the hospital. Pill turns himself into an ice pack to put himself on Charles’ arm. As Charles is taken to the hospital, he feels weak and is worried if his arm will remain crooked. How does Doctor Bones take care of Charles? Along with Pic, Toc, Felix, Lens, Pill, Ahhh, View, Booboo, Mr. Long, and Hot, let us help Charles heal quickly.

I like the way the author has handled the entire process of taking care of Charles from the time he has fallen till he returns to the park with Felix. She explains the procedures clearly and in a very methodical way to young readers. The quiz at the end of the book is fun. The illustrations are charming and they bring the characters, scenes, and concept alive to readers. The author’s experience as a doctor has been put to good use through this book. It is a lovely book to have in one’s personal collection at home as it can be read out to children many times to make them understand what needs to be done in situations like this, when there is a fall and an arm is broken. Educators and tutors can use it in classrooms and school libraries to help children understand the concept.
