Charlie the Champion by K.R. King is a very inspiring book. It tells the determination of a chubby cheetah, Charlie whose dream is to become as strong and brave as his father. Being chubby, he was bullied by his classmates, who made fun of him and said that he cannot win any races and would never be like his dad.
These bullying and negative attitudes put self-doubt in Charles's mind but never stopped him from following his dreams and proving them wrong.
I love this story that was written for children, but anyone can take away something from it. The moral of the story is to believe in yourself no matter how difficult the journey is. Just keep going. This was a great read.

From the story of Charlie, a chubby cheetah, the book addresses different children's themes such as family relationships, admiration, bullying, fears and self-esteem.
The inspiring plot will not only teach about the importance of physical capabilities and sportsmanship, but also will help children to face frustrations and disappointments and find solutions and confidence in themselves. After finding his inner confidence, and exercising more, Charlie decides to compete in a race to show he can be a winner like his daddy. I love the story because he did not stoop to the bully’s tactics, and had to overcome his own negative thoughts, which is sometimes half the battle. My autistic son was able to read it all by himself and loved it. I was thrilled to be able to show him this one with its animal characters and good moral lesson that helped boost his own self confidence.

As a kindergarten teacher, I love discovering new characters for my students. I like that them to be original and not stereotyped. "Charlie the Champion" by K.R. King is a clear example of everything I look for in a good book. Charlie is a cute little bear willing to do what he likes. After being bullied by his classmates, he thought enough was enough and decided to do what he liked.
