The good guys are the bad guys, the monsters are the victims and the hero is a broken toy.
A nationwide apocalypse, mayhem, obsession, moral ambiguity and a creeping sense that “all will definitely NOT end well” for the protagonist who has invited a monster into his home . . . combine in a delicious cocktail called the Children of Wrath! Wrap that in world class story telling, actual copy editing, hints of a spiritual darkness and you end up with something special: A God’s honest GOOD READ! The Children of Wrath begins with a flashback to the initiating event of what becomes an interesting and subtly horrifying tale. Once the “current” story arc commences (around chapter 4) the pace really picks up in a narrative that is well supported by research and character development (a rarity in the contemporary world of self publishing where not only is research ignored but simple grammer and spelling are themselves sacrificed on the alter of “millenialism”). The depth of this book was surprising. Somewhere along the way you realize that traditional standards of right & wrong get twisted when “good intentions” are driven past the breaking point in a world where systemic evil can only be overcome by perpetrating smaller, more horrifying darkness . . . Leaving you wondering . . . Are there ANY right choices in Hell? It was unexpected. It was delicious. It was oh so wrong!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. If I can guess the ending of a book then it is of no use to me. This one kept you guessing. Vivid characters, cutting edge science and subtle touches that stay with you. "Play ball." Looking forward to what comes next from this talented author. Must read.
The novel is as compelling as it is utterly real (in the best sense of the word). Highly recommend!
I recently finished this debut novel by T.A. Ward, and I am blown away!!! My heart was racing as I closed the book, and tears filled my eyes. I find myself thinking about the novel as a whole and then each of the characters throughout the day. I can’t wait for the second novel in the trilogy to be released. It’s going to be hard to wait!!
