Critter Sitter Chronicles
Pet sitting seemed like the perfect job to BFF’s, Paige and Maia, but it’s not as easy-peasy has that thought it would be. Entwined in the chaos of the job are other life elements like a secret crush, Annoying Ashley and a hairy nemisis that are clouding Paige's self-awareness. Paige is desperate to earn enough money to buy a ticket to Adventure Park to celebrate Maia’s birthday AND to ride the Serpent’s Tail with Ryan Too-Cutie Shootie. Could this two-sided desire ruin the BFF’s business and friendship? Every moment leads up to that critical decision at the amusement park.

Assessment:

Plot: A delightful story of two BFFs who start a business helping neighbors walk and/or care for their pets, this book is both heartfelt and comedic. Small moments of implausibility don’t detract from even and engaging storytelling.

Prose: The author strikes a warm, inviting tone that effectively captures the voices of the middle grade characters. In some contexts, phrasings and descriptions have an artificial ring

Originality: Though language choices can show a lack of originality and nuance, Ondrejko writes with an effervescent voice. The characters and plot are distinct, and the friends' escapades are refreshingly different.

Character Development: Characters—both human and animal—are charming and distinct. Ondrejko shows care and affection in her character development; readers may feel as if they know the protagonists as they do their best to juggle their new-found responsibilities.
