Thirteen-year-old Eden escapes with his mixed-race family from the growing race hate and violence unleashed in a future England ravaged by economic hardships, food scarcity, and social disorder, plunging the country into the hands of a fascist and evangelical alliance. The family travels on foot at night across the English countryside to evade the marauding ‘People’s Militia’ who mercilessly hunt down POCS (people of colour). In the second timeline, Eden’s grandfather Tariq provides a historical perspective of the family roots, as immigrants to England, and the family's service in the British Raj.
