The lady – she has been a way, abroad for schooling, for quite a few years. And the gentleman? Well, he has been away also and has done much to improve upon himself, from his days of youth.
By happenstance, the lady and the gentleman have each been invited to an autumn dinner party, hosted by a prominent member of society. There, is where they meet again and surprisingly become reacquainted, yet in a way, far different than before.
He is distinctly handsome and she is exceptionally beautiful. And candidly, truth of buried affections is revealed by the lady, as well as the gentleman, as they speak freely, outside in the autumn air. Written in dialogue-only structure, is what makes “Dear, Miss Anne Marie,” such an intriguing short story. Albeit brief, it is filled with charm, romance and witticism; and sets the scenario superbly, without the need of being told from a third person point of view.
