Disclaimer: I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book.
Den of Antiquity is a collection of a dozen steampunk tales and presents a broad array of what is possible in the genre.
I was particularly impressed by three of the stories. For me, they were a cut above. Truly top drawer. “Brass and Coal” by Jack Tyler, “An Evening at the Marlon Club” by Kate Philbrick, and “The Complications of Avery Vane” by Bryce Raffle. They were the kings and queen sitting atop a wonderfully imaginative mountain.
My only complaint is that several of the stories felt rushed, that the author needed a bigger canvas on which to complete the painting. The stories needed more room in which to blossom and reach their full potential.
Nevertheless, this is a desirable collection put together by highly imaginative and talented authors. This book is not to be missed.
