The year is 2032. After traveling to a galaxy far far away, the three astronauts are back on Earth, but in the future. What they see shocks them. When they left Earth in 2015, America was united, but they come to a divided country. The only way to stop this from ever happening is for them to travel back to the year 2015. And the only person who can take them back is the alien who flew back with them. They have already witnessed the powers he possesses. They know that no human on Earth can do what he can. Will he do it?

Even though the edition of Divided States of America that I read was a first draft, I found it incredibly articulate and well-organized. I thought the author's predictions regarding the dystopian future of the U.S. were realistic and reasonable, particularly the notion that the Native American Nations will once again be considered sovereign entities from the United States. I thought that this added an air of hope to a hopeless state of affairs.

I enjoyed the addition of Laura Adams' narrative to the plot intriguing because it made the dystopian future more relevant to the average citizen. Her character is easy to relate to as many families have found themselves divided due to opposing political views. The dialogue was colloquial and flowed nicely and I thought the pace of the book was quite appropriate. The twist at the end was particularly interesting and I believe that readers who have followed "The Galaxy Series" will agree with me.

I think Divided States of America is a wonderful, insightful science fiction that is comparable to visionaries in the genre like Heinlein and Rodenberry.
