An original award-winning fantasy musical/rock opera for tweens and kids at heart; Percy Jackson and Harry Potter meet Into The Woods!
Do You Believe in Magic? takes you on a spellbinding journey to the cursed Kingdom of Wonderhaven where a Muse has a secret, and enchanted books and witches break into song! In DYBIM, the magical Kingdom of Wonderhaven is under a malicious memory curse and rapidly losing magic. Aoede, the Muse of Song, believes she has no use or magic; yet she is plagued with a big secret and is the only one who can save magic and the Kingdom.
DYBIM combines colorful characters, compelling story, infectious songs, danceable duets, and full musical score! The audiobook has received six children's awards and is being considered for nomination for Best Musical Theater Album for the 58th Grammy Awards.
For those of us raised on The Hobbit and Harry Potter and places to get lost when the skies are dismal, once again, Aoede has created a safe haven for our respite. The intended audience for this magical journey is "tweens" - but its reach is far more generous than that. There is no termination date for imagination and there is no expiration date for magic. Aoede is a muse for all ages. The detail and depth of the production enhances the messages skillfully embodied within the magical Kingdom of Wonderhaven. I am going to take this beautiful record with me to my favorite hot tub hideaway in the forest and get lost for a weekend. Thank you for your concept and detail Muse Aoede!
In rare form, this musical audiobook sets you on a journey that has many unexpected twists and turns to get you to the core of the story's secrets. Once you have experienced this one, you will indeed believe in magic, because you will find it one that is spellbinding and it will have you holding your breath until the story comes to an end ... The music is exquisite, her voice is radiant throughout, the story line is captivating and the narration is very well done. This will be one that all ages will find enchanting, as long as they can still connect to their childhood world of make believe ... where everything is possible....
We have always enjoyed Aoede and once again she has not disappointed. Check out our other review for her as well. The link is provided below. What Dreams Are Made Of
My boys love all kinds of music. I like to expose them to the alternative, non rock and pop music as much as I can to expand their horizons a little bit. They have a few other Aoede cd's and have come to love the music, the characters and the fun in the stories of these collections. The music is fun and infectious and stays in your head all day. I love all fairy tales and I love that my boys share that love also. The narration really brings the story in the music together The boys and their friends dance and play to it and seem to really enjoy it!
Do you like stories about magical creatures? Spells? Well, this musical is for you. Lisa Sniderman's Aoede Do You Believe in Magic? CD is a kids musical full of goblins, witches, spells, and the most important, singing. Aoede and her friends are trying to save Wonderhaven from witches. This CD does a good job of mixing a narrator telling the story and many other actors to act it out. While listening to Do You Believe in Magic, you will feel like you are right there watching the musical live. There are three acts for this play. Each act is easy to follow. I do recommend listening to Act 2 carefully. There is a lot of action in this act and it will help bring the story together for Act 3. I do wish it came with some sort of booklet or picture book to look at. This CD gets 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend this magical musical CD for ages 7-12. It may be a little creepy for younger kids to listen to. Go pick a copy of this magical journey up today. Reviewed by Kamren W. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 9.
'Aoede - Do you Believe in Magic?' is a fanciful adventure - down the rabbit hole - of magical musical riveting storytelling and exciting labyrinths of trust and misdeed. The nicely constructed songs propel the story with solid performances and strong arrangements. Do you believe in magic is a rhetorical question but you just might believe after listening.
The music is true to its story and well produced. The story moves along fluidly and the structure and continuity are true to its genre (fantasy). The content is stimulating and attractive. It is in touch with its audience (tweens) and leads and guides them along the way. The performances and production values are terrific.
Once again, Lisa Sniderman crafts an ambitious journey of story and song. The two disc production takes listeners along on Aoede's continuing adventure rooted in fantasy and magic. The Kingdom of Wonderhaven is cursed with a brain fog, a muse harbors a secret, books are enchanted and witches sing. With the trappings of a rock opera, Narrator Kevin Ponthier weaves together Aoede (Sniderman), shape shifters, goblins, a high priestess and more in a cast of characters worthy of the journey. Too numerous to mention here, the talented performers are detailed in the liner notes.
Do You Believe in Magic takes us on a journey into an enchanted land filled with captivating music and populated with richly detailed characters of the sort one might expect to find in a big budget fantasy film. It's a wonderful merging of dialogue, narration, and song, a musical/rock opera that evokes the feel of the Harry Potter saga and is well-suited for tweens and adults. The scope of the production is remarkable - 23 cuts laced with excitingly dramatic spoken-word performances and songs that would be at home in a Broadway musical, served up by a sizable, highly talented cast. No small undertaking, this. The album opens with the ominous, ethereal strains of what sounds like a musical spell being cast, or perhaps the sources of good and evil brewing for a confrontation. We know immediately that we're not in Kansas anymore, and are glad for it. For adventure is precisely what the audience of Do You Believe in Magic will have come hoping to find, and the album doesn't disappoint.
HOLLYWOOD - 11/10/2015 (PRESS RELEASE JET) -- Aoede, pronounced A-E-Dee, — the character created and portrayed by San Francisco’s quirky folk pop and theatrical performer Lisa Sniderman — is nominated for the upcoming Hollywood Music in Media Awards with her pop song “Perfect Day.”
The event is set for Wednesday evening (Nov. 11) at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.
Sniderman, who has been collecting awards in children’s music and audio books for her creative character’s talented and fanciful offerings the past few years, named Aoede for one of the first muses in Greek mythology.
“I’ve always been fascinated by magic and mythology,” Sniderman said.
Sniderman’s Aoede character exists in a magical kingdom called Wonderhaven, a world that rivals that of Harry Potter, Into the Woods, and other imaginings of eclectic and eccentric authors’ minds.
Aoede is at the center of Sniderman’s first musical audio book “Is Love A Fairy Tale?” and her 2012 “Skeletons of the Muse” album, as well as the audio book, “What Are Dreams Made Of?” and, most recently, “Do You Believe in Magic,” a rock opera for tweens, submitted for a GRAMMY nomination. The musical currently has sponsorships and is in the works to be performed by Bay area children’s theaters in 2016.
