Mindy Bright is grieving her grandmother's death when she moves to her father's old farmhouse and enrolls in Korn Wotel, a quirky school in a motel. There, she teams up with Charlie, who loves baking for the Carnival, a school fundraiser. She also has to deal with Derek, the school troublemaker. Eager to impress everyone, Mindy builds prototypes of her game ideas. Still, she faces many obstacles and setbacks, including a mysterious boy sabotaging her plans, clashes with Derek, and a library mishap that gets her expelled from the Carnival. Along the way, she learns about her father's past, her grandmother's legacy, and her own identity. She also develops a friendship with Derek, and a partnership with Charlie, who turns out to be a talented baker. When the carnival is threatened by a power outage and a donkey rampage, Mindy uses her inventiveness and courage to save the school. A school that had given Mindy a chance to figure out who she is, and where she belongs.
