Doing one's Duty
Mike Walsham, author
Andrew was recruited as an agent by the British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) for his linguistic talents and other qualities. He completes several dangerous missions in late 1939 and the first half of 1940. He is then instructed to join one of the 'small ships' in the evacuation of BEF soldiers out of Dunkirk as well as to obtain vital information from the French battalions that are holding off the German advance into Dunkirk. On his return to London in early June 1940, he joins the crew of a battle-cruiser off the Shetland Islands whose objective is to persuade the King of Norway to accept the British offer of exile in London rather than fight the vastly superior Nazi war machine that is advancing north through Norway. When he gets back to London, the French government is about to sign an armistice with Germany. General de Gaulle, however, has escaped to join his ally, Winston Churchill, in London where he sets up broadcasts from the BBC to the French people with Andrew's assistance. This story is a most fascinating sequel to the first novel, Monique,. The use of actual events and characters in a fictitious manner should enhance its appeal. . .
