When the president of the local Santa Fe Mystery Readers Club goes missing, mystery editor Taylor Browning starts her unofficial inquiries. After talking with a club member, Taylor learns the president had a secret. She has been moonlighting moving the prized chile, the Mayan Death Pepper, throughout northern New Mexico. Did this nocturnal activity link with her disappearance? Some club members decide to help Taylor do a little investigating. When one of them also turns up missing, it’s every member for themselves. Suspicion and paranoia threaten to pull the book club apart. When the clues lead to Santa Fe, Taylor’s friend Det. Sanchez steps in.
