Reviews
Amanda O'Dwyer, LoveReading4Kids

"Absolutely delightful! The pictures are just gorgeous and sure to draw the younger readers in. I love that it is just Eve and grandad enjoying time together and their adventures in the park. The fact that some of the story is told through the illustrations means the book becomes more engaging and parents can work on comprehension as well. I just adore this."

Bianca Schulze

"Eve’s Ducklings is an approachable story that highlights the importance of not giving up. Readers watch Eve’s failed attempts to interact with the ducklings and they are able to celebrate with her when she finally overcomes her reluctance to try. In addition to a solid storyline, engaging illustrations help this picture book convey the message in a manner that will have readers giggling at times while still sympathizing with Eve’s plight. The illustrations show Eve’s emotions well enough that the reader can feel her disappointment and finally celebrate her success. These illustrations combined with the author’s use of simple text make this an entertaining and relatable adventure that appeals to all age levels."

Drena Irish, A LoveReading4Kids Ambassador

"This book is an excellent encouragement for children to start thinking about their relationship with wild creatures, how to show them respect, give them their own space and love and care for them in a suitable and responsible way. A charming and inspiring story."

Ginny Mcpherson, Elementary Educator

"What a delightful book. I read this to my pre school class and they loved it. Being kind to animals is an important message and I think this book did it beautifully. I will definitely read this again to my class."

Kirkus Reviews

"The story is pleasant and engaging, offering an essential lesson in cultivating curiosity while showing respect toward animals in their natural habitats, and youngsters will relate to Eve’s eagerness. The charming illustrations depict the lake, playground, trees, plants, a city skyline, and more. They also feature artistic, textured backgrounds, graphic swirls on the water, and patchy, scratchy blue skies. The images that show Eve’s multiple attempts to connect with the ducklings are especially adorable. A well-illustrated and thoughtful intergenerational tale." – Kirkus Reviews

Marie-Hélène Fasquel, Readers' Favorite

"A beautiful tale of friendship between animals and children which is bound to become a favorite bedtime story. This short story will give them all the tools to grow a healthy relationship with animals of all types. I recommend this beautiful tale!"

Mary Lanni, Librarian, Reedsy

"This intergenerational story celebrates the love between a grandfather and his young granddaughter. Parents of young children will recognize Eve’s enthusiasm, especially in two- to three-year-olds. Short, descriptive phrases and abundant dialogue make this book well-suited to preschool-aged readers, and it is designed to be especially enjoyable as a lap read. The beautifully rendered illustrations are noteworthy on their own and serve to bring this story to life. Textured in unexpected ways, they perfectly capture the feeling of a chilly spring day with dappled sky and soft, green grass. Greens, blues, and yellows inherent to springtime fill each image, and readers can almost smell the park Eve and her grandfather are exploring. Background clues like an adjacent city skyline, palm trees, and cattails place the setting very specifically, while the jackets and hats worn by Eve and her grandfather indicate the outside temperature without textual context. Readers of all ages will be drawn to the cheery characters and the captivating visuals within this story. At once a story about intergenerational love between a grandfather and his granddaughter and an example of the power of tenacity, Eve’s Ducklings draws readers into the dynamic and precious world of an inquisitive young child. Preschool-aged readers will especially connect with Eve’s story and look forward to sharing it with their grandparents."

Eve's Ducklings is a finalist in the Wishing Shelf Awards

As judged by children in eight UK-based primary and secondary schools. The Wishing Shelf Book Awards gives indie authors like myself the opportunity to have their published works judged by children with the help of their teachers. I love the fact that young readers get to choose the finalists and winners by rating each picture book based on five criteria: editing, theme, style, cover and illustrations. When I found out that Eve's Ducklings was named a finalist for the 2021 awards, I reached out to its founder Billy Bob Buttons, who is a well established and popular children's book author in his own right, and thanked him for the honour. It's certainly great to have children like my book! Many worthy books were named finalists in my category (pre-school picture books) and I wish the authors well for the announcement of winners on 1 April 2022.
