5-Stars!

Felix the Fox and his Fiery Temper by Lindsey Coker Harris is an entertaining and educational picture book for children. When things were going Felix's way, he was a pleasant young fox with a sunny disposition. However, when something upset the little guy, his fiery side came out in full force. He would throw wild temper tantrums when asked to eat his vegetables or to stop playing video games. And Felix's meltdowns didn't just include screaming and crying; they also involved throwing and breaking things. When the thoughtful fox saw that he had damaged some of the belongings he held dear, he realized that a change was needed. Felix implemented several techniques to alleviate anger, such as focused breathing and positive thinking, and he reaped many rewards by learning to control his temper.

I love how Felix's emotions are unmistakable throughout the book, making an apparent visual difference between his frustrated and ever-growing joyful sides. Every aspect of the colorful artwork is a treat for the eyes. The well-integrated text is fun to read, especially when it includes occasional words emphasized through color, size, and designs. Lindsey Coker Harris's narration style is approachable and enjoyable, and her story highlights the value of keeping our negative emotions under control. Felix the Fox and his Fiery Temper is an excellent choice for parents looking to help their children deal with frustrations healthily.
