I have been in the fire service for 15 years. This book kept my constant interest for 2 days straight. I was not able to put it down!!! The characters in the book drew you into their daily lives. I was able to relate to each and every one of them. The love that each character exhibited is the same love that our service have for each for our brothers and sisters. The action portrayed is as true to life as it can possibly get! It leaves you hanging and thirsting to read what's next. What will happen to our next favorite characters? That question will draw you in and not wanting to put it down. The descriptions of our daily work day for a large fire dept. gives you an accurate idea of how things work on an emergency call from the most minor reoccurring calls to the catastrophic event that happens. This book depicts the organization that is entailed when there is a massive multi organization response to a catastrophe. If you're looking for a book that's will hold you're attention with action and drama that includes a lil romance this book is an excellent read.
EXCELLENT READ....if you're a fan of action/drama, firefighters/firefighting, a touching love story, and/or strong women. My feminist heart applauds the author for the many female characters who are strong, intelligent leaders. My bleeding liberal heart loved the diversity of characters. They are flawed, yet redeemable - oh so human. The technical side of firefighting is a bit of a challenge for those of us who know nothing about it. But, the story is worth the challenge, trust me. The author's closing thoughts are truly words to live by.
This is not just another fire department book! It has something for everyone – the fire buff to the romantic. As a 16- year veteran on an engine of a busy fire department on the East Coast, it is apparent to me that the author, Michael Erving, is well versed and educated in the life of a first responder – from station clean -up to fighting the red devil – and everything else in between! His use of the English language made me feel alive and present in each character and situation.
