GOLD BOYS: High School Ignition
Ruby Wicked, author

Scholls’ heart raced as he paced the floor of the emergency room. He found his best friend Garrett “G” Pierce unconscious, barely breathing, and sped straight to the hospital. G wasn’t feeling well in the days prior to Christmas, but how could he have turned for the worse so quickly?

These unlikely high school seniors became inseparable after that first assignment in biology. Garrett was the star quarterback, 6' 2", extremely handsome, and incidentally, an actor recently nominated as lead in a major motion picture drama. He was easily the most popular guy at Excalibur High.

Scholls Parker was the complete opposite. The quiet, nerdy kid with non-affectionate parents, lived in a trailer park and wore broken glasses and thrift store clothes. Classmates mocked him daily, though he was on track to be Valedictorian. Despite counter extremities, both gold boys favored humor and hit it off instantly.

On the surface, it appeared that Garrett’s family was perfect. Dr. Peter Bergstrom, a renowned neurologist, was well liked in the community and soon to be Garrett’s stepfather. Peter loved and adored G’s mother Barb, a beautiful, intelligent, caring woman who tragically lost her husband. The doctor also suffered in his personal life, when both he and his son Casey were abandoned, leaving him to be a single dad. Everyone was joyful that Peter and Barb had found love again, but was it really all that happy?

One night during dinner at Garrett’s house, Scholls inquired about the good doctor’s past. His curiosity would launch a series of events and unravel Bergstrom's obscure conduct, obsessive behavior, and psychotic outbursts. What remained to be seen was the extent of that madness.
