It’s been two months since I moved in with Mickey Hart.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
- 523 square feet is really f*cking small.
- Sharing a bathroom is the worst idea ever. Especially when you’re a damn paraplegic.
- Never lie. No matter what.
Oh, and one last thing...
I love her. More than ever.
Even if I'm still a workaholic. And stubborn as all hell.
Warning: Strong language, mature content, drama, and angst included. Shirt sold separately.
This novella is an adult contemporary romance featuring a disabled hero who (still) happens to be a rich and sexy alpha male with a potty mouth.
Cale and Mickey: Book 2 of 4
I picked up this book and read it in one sitting simply because it's the sort of book you can't put down until you've finished. There is just no way to stop once you've started. Cale... yeah. He's the sort of protagonist that drives you wild because the gorgeous man can be as sweet and loving as he can be stubborn and pigheaded. Because you cannot get enough of him while at the same time, you want to smack him upside the head. And Mickey... flawed and beautiful Mickey was as always a pleasure to read. I loved this story simply because you find yourself pulled in so many directions. Simply because you can't help but love these characters and their story. It was mostly from Cale's POV, which I loved. But I also wanted more of Mickey. I missed her and I missed her life. I missed her friends and her work. I'm hoping we get more of that in the next one. I'm hoping we get the backstory on Dixon Rush (good name BTW) and what's going on with Cale's work that has him practically living in the office. I need more!
I couldn't wait to read what happened next with Cale and Mickey and now I'm dying for the next book in the series! The story was great, it was funny, sweet, and frustrating, in a good way like when you want to shake the characters and remind them to keep their temper in check and not be stupid stubborn! The characters were a perfect mix of the people we met in book one and yet still growing both as individuals and a couple. We also got to learn some more about Cale's life in a wheelchair which is one of the super interesting and unique sides to this series, it's also one of my favourite sides to the series because Cale is just a regular guy (okay a super stubborn guy!) who just happened to have had an accident that left him paralyzed. Just an overall amazing and unique love story!
I generally don't read short stories because they often lack the in depth emotions, plot and the fully developed characters. I had read Hart Broken #1 and really enjoyed it, so since this was a continuation of their story, I took it. I was far from being disappointed by this 5 star novella.
I really loved it because it had an hint of intrigue to it. It captivated my undivided attention until the very end and then, I wanted more. In my opinion, what makes a story standout, are the characters. I admired the strong willed, never back down Mickey. Cale is a very stubborn man who wants to do everything by himself since he's paraplegic and can be an A....le at times with a potty mouth. Mickey doesn't let him push her around. She's loving and forgiving but she makes him beg for it.
The storyline was sort of suspenseful because I was left with doubts and intrigued. It just fuelled my passion to want to continue reading and then wanting more. It's a sweet love story with struggles. I got to feel what they were feeling. Bottom line is that I want more.
This part can't be read without reading book 1 first. Go grab part 1 and then jump into this one, I promise the readers won't regret it.
Real, bold and humorous! In order to really appreciate this story, you need to have read the first book Hart Broken. This novella is about one the main characters from that book, Cale. The story is told from Cale’s point of view with a few parts switching to Mickey’s and it is a very intense read. In this story, we get the nitty gritty about Cale’s insecurities and doubts. He is at war with himself and with war there are always casualties.
Cale is a great character but was not the most emotionally stable person in the first book. Being crippled has affected his perception of himself as a man which has led to some insecurities that affect his behavior. I am thrilled that Ms. Arcane did not try to make him stable just because he found love. Most authors make their main leads stable when they find their “other half” and somehow it always makes them “complete” and they become stable practically overnight. Well not in real life and not in this story. This story is about the next day and days that follow. This is about the reality that someone loves him and he is just does not know how to accept that.
I got to tell you that I am loving Mickey’s character in this story even more. She knows what Cale needs and is there for him 100%. When it gets to be too unhealthy she takes a stand but in her own way. Which is exactly what he needs.
So, what did I want more of? Well there were things brought up that were left open. Why was Dixon Rush contacting Cale? Was the accident on purpose? How did Mickey know Cale was lying? There is much going on in this story! I am hoping that in book three Hart of Hers that we find out the answers to those questions and more. Overall, fantastic read and I want more, right now!
I felt like I was shot through the heart and author Annie Arcane is to blame as she tells a frustratingly beautiful and sweet tale of what real love is, warts and all. Cale is a workaholic, a man with a heart of gold and list of frustrations a mile long. He is a paraplegic, but he loves with all he has, to the point of pushing away the one woman he cannot live without. Oh, and he might just be a little bit of a pig-headed man-child, too.
Mickey is a force to be reckoned with. Sure, she has flaws, but her nearly limitless compassion, patience and love for Cale is simply heart-melting and rivaling with the saints…okay, maybe she isn’t quite ready for sainthood, but still…
Clearly, Annie Arcane is not afraid to turn the world of contemporary romance on its ears as she steps onto another path less followed as she takes one man damaged emotionally and physically and shakes him up with the unconditional love of a very strong woman who refuses to give up on who and what her heart sees when Cale is around. Ms. Arcane’s frank handling of some of the issues surrounding life as a paraplegic and being wheelchair bound is extremely well done, especially when told from Cale’s viewpoint. I was so invested I wanted to put them both in a time out until they could say I’m sorry and I love you!
A chaotic jumble of love, tension need with a dash of reality tossed in! I was enraptured by Hart of His from the first page to the last, because this is what love is all about, the good, the bad and the walls that are broken down.
I received this copy from Annie Arcane in exchange for my honest review!
