Reviews
A past-life connection resurfaces in this appetizing first Shadowing Souls romance by Frankhouser (Escape from Ruby’s Ranch). Rebecca Clemmons’s job as the Health Nut Cafe’s baker consumes her life; she is also distracted by thoughts of Jonathan Parker, the owner of the new bookstore next door. Becka resists the deep attraction, even though her highly intuitive mother encourages her to pursue Jonathan. When events repeatedly bring the two together, Becka starts to believe that Jonathan is part of her destiny. Becka’s closeness to her younger brother, Rich, is effectively conveyed, especially following their mother’s suspicious death, which involves a company related to Jonathan’s family. Both Becka and Rich are also drawn into the drama surrounding Becka’s best friend, Annie, and her abusive spouse. The intensifying emotions between Becka and Jonathan are well-paced; the sensual love scenes increase in fervor as their history becomes clearer to them. Some plot development is heavily dependent on information dumping in dialogue that slows the narrative. However; the dynamic between Becka and Jonathan and the interplay between their past and present connection through flashbacks and dreams keeps the reader enticed. This is a vibrant story of love reincarnated. (BookLife)
