For Hope and Luke, Harcourt’s Mountain is their haven of happiness, and the last thing Hope wants is to leave. When Luke’s father suffers a stroke, they have no choice but to rush to his side. They head to Boston not realizing they’re about to face their toughest challenge yet. Family can be everything, but Luke and Hope soon discover it can also threaten that which you cherish most. Faced first with Luke’s family, and then her own, the long reach of vengeance turns their world into a nightmare. Blame, heartache and loss will bring them to their knees before they can return to their mountain home. Torn apart they journey home hoping to find forgiveness, peace, and healing. Hope discovers she isn’t the only one trying to find her way back. Zebediah Harrigan’s granddaughter has been lost for seven years and Hope might be the only person who can help him find her. On their return, a terrifying storm breaks over Harcourt’s Mountain, and in the destructive downpour, Hope may lose Luke forever. Love saved them once before, but will it be enough to save them now? Can Hope forgive Luke? Will Luke manage to win her back before they lose everything? Heart of the Mountain is a gut-wrenching tale of vengeance, heartbreak and challenges that test both Luke and Hope. Get ready to race towards the end, as this unthinkable journey takes you through the fire-damaged remains of Boston, the humid dangers of the deep-South and the majestic Canadian Wilderness. Once again, Elaine Dodge keeps you enthralled until the very last page.
Reviews
Robert Groess

A genuine masterpiece.

Heart of the Mountain picks up seamlessly from where Harcourt’s Mountain left off. Elaine Dodge takes us to the next level and treats us to the exhilaration and anguish of seemingly disparate lives in the North America of 1867-1873. Lives which ultimately intertwine and influence that of Luke Harcourt, and his family.

Starting out from having built a little slice of Heaven on their mountain, Luke and his young family are irrevocably drawn into the maelstrom that is frontier life of the 19th century.

Brave and courageous to write, Dodge brings characters to life with a palpable complexity and depth of emotion in a time when inequality was stark and moral character manifestly a mirage.

With period accuracy and an immersive, detailed choreography of events, Heart of the Mountain treats us to an epic tale that would be befitting of a historic account. – Robert Groess
