Nine years after the second volume in the series, Max Brown and his soul-mate/wife Sally are struggling to raise frighteningly precocious twin daughters and Max is confronting the early signs of aging. The twins maneuver Max and Sally into a treasure hunt for Confederate gold in north Georgia. Seven members of the Ku Klux Klan have been after the same treasure but Sally’s unstable uncle (Vietnam) has unique and useful information. The twins and uncle are kidnapped by the Klansmen, setting off a frantic chase from one potential treasure site to the next as Max and Sally try to save their children.
