To escape "sivilization" Huck heads for Indian Territory. He lives for a while among the Cherokees, then joins a wagon train in the gold rush to California. Giving up in mining, he goes to San Francisco for a while. When Kansas Territory is opened for settlement, Huck goes there to try to help make Kansas a free state.
