I love that we get to learn about different countries from individual perspectives and not from stereotypes or overgeneralizations. This is a great way for kids to read and learn about other people and cultures and also to be proud of the culture from which they came! Love the pictures turned into paintings too!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the short essays from different young people, of all ages, from many different parts of the world. Each had an interesting way of revealing something--historical and/or current--about where they lived, and about themselves. What a great way for young people to learn about other people, who live, speak differently than they do, but have similar feelings, experiences, goals, and aspirations. Older people can learn something, too!
I loved this short but simple book. I loved the layout and theme and I felt like I was gaining a new friend each time I read a new person’s story. We have perceptions about other countries mainly from our media if you are not well traveled and haven’t lived in other countries. Being in the US we are often isolated from what goes on in the rest of the world and what connects us to people is listening to their stories and learning who they are. In ‘I am Proud of Who I Am,’ not only did I meet a slew of young people from all over the world, I learned what they were passionate about and something I didn’t know about their country, like legos were invented in Denmark and the main language in Africa is actually Portuguese. Interesting and fun book. Highly recommend for all ages.
I truly didn't know what to expect. This book ranged in the bits of information it supplied on so many locales. I have to research other editions of this series immediately. Great resource material.
A really cute and impactful book on the children who read it that need some exposure to positive cultural awareness and pride. It helps make sure children can feel proud of who they are, without feeling as if someone else should not.
The concept of this book is awesome. I would build on that. We are introduced to young people from different countries. I kept reading with the hope that my country was there but it wasn't so I surmise the author is just starting and there are many more volumes to come.
