Author
In the Company of Wolves: Thinning The Herd (FBI Thriller Series Book 1)
Set near Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota just after the New Year, "In the Company of Wolves" is a Thriller by James Michael Larranaga that intermingles the scent of deception and deceit, and the redolence of victory as right triumphs over wrong and the wolves are kept at bay. Quin Lighthorn is a bounty hunter who gets a job as an Intern at Safe Haven LLC after their current intern disappears with her boyfriend. At Safe Haven they don't sell life insurance policies, they buy them. Offering policy holders with terminal illnesses a large portion of the payout on their death benefits to use as they see fit before they die, then splitting the remaining money with anonymous investors is big business to the death brokers. The problem is--too many clients are dying ahead of the projections and someone has noticed. When Quin meets Rebecca Baron, an artist with an inoperable brain tumor and a $10 million life insurance policy, he is determined to protect her from the wolves, as he has dubbed the sales force at Safe Haven LLC and their alpha, Big Ben Moretti. Rebecca is intrigued with Quin and his Native American heritage, but can she trust him when she learns Quin is manic-depressive and prone to fits of violent behavior and hallucinations?

What Readers Are Saying About "In The Company of Wolves"

"A wild, mind-bending read..." Kirkus Reviews

"Larranaga offers an exciting and interesting premise and the promise of a series in the making." ForeWord Clarion Reviews

"Larranaga's intricate development of characters and the way he compares them to wolves and pack hierarchy is captivating." GoodbooksToday Reviews

"Full of lies, deception and drug induced hallucinations, you are kept on your toes till the end with the outcome never certain. The author must be congratulated for a very well executed novel, very easy and compelling read. The analogy with wolves which runs through the story is clever and cements the "Indian" theme in place." - Basingstone Book Reviews

"The plotline was original, dark and very edgy. The characters had depth, were intelligent and the dialogue in each scene read like true conversations. When it was time for a suspenseful moment, Mr. Larranaga worked his magic and had me on the edge of my seat." - Tomb Tender

"Larranaga's characters are fully developed and interesting and you never quite know where they will lead you or just who is telling the truth...really interesting tale of greed, manipulation and murder." - Reading, Writing and Reisling

"The author tosses in another little twist and you're once again reading late into the night to see what is coming next. The leading character, Quin, is amazingly complex and troubled. Before long, you aren't sure what is real and what is simply in Quin's mind. The correlation between the predatory businessmen and a pack of wolves was a perfect touch." - LibraryThing
