In Lamb Of God, a young man named Mitchell Wallace tries to take his own life by jumping off a bridge. While in the process of trying to take his own life, he notices a lamb that is in danger and decides to go help it to safety. As he does, he learns that this lamb is named Steve, and he tells him that there are evil beings who are trying to destroy mankind and that God needs his help to save the world. Mitchell (Mitch) believes Steve and decides that he will need the help of his friend and roommate, Peter, and sister, Susan. Although he and his sister do not get along, they decide that it is more important to try and help save the world against dark spirits, instead of constantly bickering.
This story has many moments that are sarcastic, where the readers will not help but smile. Harrington and Adams’ story has many shocking details and will mostly appeal to individuals who enjoy reading gore, adventure, mystery, and/or apocalyptical themes. The language was easy to understand and easy to follow along, and many readers will enjoy the modern language that is used. However, individuals who are offended by harsh language or sexual content should be mindful of this before reading. Additionally, while a horror fiction novel, this is a story that incorporates an aspect of religion, and readers who prefer a certain tone when religion is discussed should also be mindful of this before they read this novel.
The theme of trusting those that are close to someone is also discussed, because people or beings may not always appear as they may seem. There are many moments where it seems that events will turn out one way, and then are a complete surprise.
What could have been improved upon, though, was that while on their journey, Mitch seems to not care that his sister is acting inappropriate with individuals they have just recently met. While Mitch was not treated well by his parents, because they hadn’t accepted a second child emotionally or financially, it seems that regardless, any sibling would feel responsible to try and help their sister not get into inappropriate circumstances.
The ending will leave readers feeling very surprised and hoping for a sequel, to elaborate on the shocking conclusion.
