Denis Hachey, Author

Adult; Spirituality/Inspirational; (Market)

Do you ever feel like you could do more with your life, but you don't know where to start? In this inspiring fiction, you will meet David, a young boy, who struggles to keep his life on track, and often blames it on his family circumstances. He is born in a rather poor family and holds his family background somehow responsible for everything wrong in life. Holding his innate circumstances responsible for every problem, David gradually develops a negative mindset that tends to make him believe that he is not responsible for the wrath that comes his way. He fails to hold his actions accountable for the consequences and is contended with putting everything on the destiny. This never lets him come out of his skin and do big. His life is marked with anger, despair, and disgust, indicating the 'negative-monster' he has transformed into. With all this going, David meets an accident that changes the course of his life for good. He is hospitalized, and this provides him with an opportunity to be in solace. It is one of the very few times in his life when he has been alone and this solitude proves to be groundbreaking in his life. All alone, he delves into his subconscious mind and unleashes a life beyond, what he has always presumed it to be. After Dave comes out of the hospital, he goes to spend some time with Aunt Sally and his world begins to radically change. As his new mentor, Aunt Sally shows him how to start looking at the world in a totally different way and guides him to become aware of opportunities rather than challenges. This book will show you that once you change the way you look at things, your mind will never return to its previous way. Get your own copy now and discover how an accident proved to be a blessing in disguise for David, as he sets out to learn the greater meaning of life through a journey of self- acquaintance that takes him to deeper layers of his subconscious mind and introduces him to unheard facets of life. Assessment:

Idea: Like Rich Dad, Poor Dad and some other popular works of personal and financial inspiration, Denis Hachey's Mind to Mind Conversation presents a fictionalized memoir of acquiring the knowledge to succeed and find happiness from a dedicated teacher. Here, that teacher is "Aunt Sally," who shares advice both practical (visualize goals, plan for retirement) and philosophical aspirations. Such a familiar premise can be wildly effective, of course, and Mind to Mind Conversation offers some fresh quirks, such as its narrator's conversations with his literal subconscious.

Prose: Hachey's sentences are smooth and polished, and his dialogue -- especially between the narrator and his subconscious -- can be funny or poignant when appropriate. Like other books in this subgenre, the tone of Mind to Mind Conversation touches upon a fabulist simplicity. Hachey handles this well, line to line, though the narrative passages -- where the narrator is doing something or observing life -- tend to be more compelling than the ones where he's discussing life advice with Aunt Sally.

Originality: Many of the guidelines for living in this work echo those in comparable books. This book's most original and provocative idea, the conversations with the subconscious, gets dropped early in the text, when Aunt Sally takes the narrator under her wing. Nothing about her is especially distinctive, and she seems less a character than a conduit for working lots of advice (and book recommendations) into a fictionalized narrative. Inspirational quotations from familiar sources open most chapters, and at times Aunt Sally's advice seems to rewrite some of these. If Aunt Sally's dialogue and advice sounded like it came from the mind of a singular, fascinating woman with a unique perspective, Mind to Mind Conversation would likely feel much more original.

Execution: Mind to Mind Conversation offers familiar advice in a narrative format that only is compelling as storytelling in the earliest and final chapters, when the author's framing device (involving the narrator telling his story to a protege's son) imposes a structure upon it. The figure of Aunt Sally never becomes fascinating or unique, and most of the book is spent with her sharing reasonable but familiar advice.

“Without discipline, integrity, commitment, persistence, patience, and effort, even the most magnificent dream will crumble.”

Dreams – we all have them, or at least when we were kids. However, somewhere in the journey of life many of us have given up on our dreams, forgotten how to dream or don’t know how to achieve them. Dave is one such person. He has given up on his dreams, feeling his lot in life is just to stumble along. Than one day he was in a really bad fight and left for dead. Instead, he awakens in the hospital with a second chance at life. What sounds crazy, he begins having conversations with his subconscious, who leads him to his Aunt Sally, where the lessons he is about to learn will either change his mind and life, or continue on the same path before the fight.

I found this to be a truly remarkable book full of well-written insight. This is not your typical self-help book as it is written in story form, helping the reader to better connect with the reality that we can change our lives by changing our minds. No, it’s not a name it and claim it philosophy, it takes hard work, determination, patience, commitment and willingness to learn, grow and apply. I found Hachey’s honesty and intuitiveness insight was just what I needed to dust off my dreams and kick-start my way to accomplishment. Definitely one book I will be returning to, as the information is amazingly valuable. Highly recommend for rediscovering the dreams within us.

I think this book’s approach is brilliant. Instead of writing a how-to book this author has decided to show the readers what he means through the use of a story since the human mind is conditioned to recall stories better.

In the story, a young man, David, who has lost his way in life is beaten up by the bad guys and thrown into the sea. He is rescued and finds himself badly hurt and in the hospital. While in the hospital his mind or rather his subconscious begins to talk to him. Due to his conversations with his subconscious and later on his talks with his Aunt Sally, he succeeds to change his life because he is shown the way to change his thinking. This is the story that now much older David tells his friend Harry’s son, Logan who has asked to know more about David’s accident as a young man.

Some of the lessons David has learned and is passing on have to do with finding a dream (= a purpose) to follow, never giving up and making failures learning experiences, and paying attention to discipline. In the book, there are also guidelines and other instructions that have the headings of Basic Rules to Help you Achieve your Dreams, The Basics of Goal Setting, and the Importance of Persistence. A positive attitude and continuous learning are emphasized as well, among many other important teachings.

There are several passages I took notes on, such as: “There are two major pains in life. The pain of discipline and the pain of regret. The first weighs ounces, whereas the latter weighs tons.” Also, the importance and use of meaningful quotations are emphasized in the book.

Except one thing was disconcerting for me. It was the subconscious having an actual, physical voice in the story, even if that voice got the reader's attention. I thought it injected the strong advice a hint of unbelievability. Yet, I can’t think of how else could the author give his advice and still make the reading fun.

The writing is clear and to the point without being boring. The story in the book is inspirational and its self-improvement information is priceless, and with only 164 pages to read, the book is a find especially for the young, although people of any age can benefit from it.

If you enjoyed the movie, The Secret, or if you are sick and tired of being miserable and want to change your life, then this book is for you. It begins where Dave, who has been living on the streets for a while, gets into a bad fight and ends up in hospital after being beaten and stabbed and left for dead. At some point in the hospital, he starts hearing a voice which becomes louder over time – this is the voice of his subconscious which leads him to go and stay with his Aunt Sally when he gets out of the hospital. The story then suddenly jumps to the future which is a little confusing at first, until you realize that Harry, his old friend, is asking Dave to tell his son, Logan what happened to him after his time in hospital. Dave takes Logan out on a boat the following day and the rest of the book goes back to telling the story of the time he spent at Aunt Sally’s after being in hospital. This was a life changing time for Dave. He had grown up with a mother who told him things such as: “you will never amount to anything,” and “we’re just not the kind of people good things happen to.” Most of the book is told in conversation format between Dave and Aunt Sally. The conversations are very enlightening and would be hugely helpful to anyone who wants to change their lives for the better. The book is also full of inspiring quotes as well as helpful lists, for example, the seven steps for working with dreams. Overall excellent book.

After a slew of bad decisions leads him to a near-death experience Dave’s world begins to change dramatically. As a result of the accident and subsequent attempts to bring him back to life, Dave becomes aware of his subconscious mind. Suddenly he is able to converse directly with his subconscious, and it is that subconscious, paired with the mentoring of his dear aunt Sally, that begin to help Dave turn his life around.
This story may be fiction, but it’s one that is sure to inspire and resonate with just about any reader. For better or for worse we’ve all had those moments in our lives where we’ve had to stop ourselves and ask just what we’re doing with our lives? We recall the dreams of our childhood and realize with sobering disappointment that we had lost sight of those dreams long ago. This story is for anyone who’s ever felt that way, and with masterful writing and delightful characters it’s well-worth the read!
