James Thomas, author

Adult; General Fiction (including literary and historical); (Market)

Modern loneliness and the absence of intimacy amongst London's millions are the ills suffered by the quirky yet deeply melancholic 30-something, Joseph Bogart. Weighed down with emotional baggage and feeling lost amidst a mass of failed relationships, Joseph uses his sharp wit and tragicomedy to fight the hopelessness gnawing at him. Through his trials, we discover if Joseph is able to find a successful way out of his life of 'quiet desperation'.

LoveReading - Nicola Coen

I’ve just finished reading this book and crikey did it pull on my heart-strings, what an emotional book. It is written so beautifully that once you start reading it, it draws you in and you are eager to know more.

It tells the story of Joseph, who is living and working in London. Apart from the work colleagues that barely notice him, he is largely on his own going through the motions of each day at a time. When a family moves in nearby he forms a great bond with the boy Aaron and they spend a lot of time together, which in turn reduces Joseph’s loneliness. What happens after that takes the reader on an emotional journey. It is definitely a book I will remember for a long time and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
