I was so happy to receive a review copy of this book because it’s right up my alley and I was so excited to read it and tell you all about it. As the title says, it is a collection of sci-fi poetic prose and those of you who have been following me awhile know that I love sci-fi and I love poetry and prose. The sci-fi, cyberpunky feel of the cover drew me right in as well.

This is a long book but the way it’s broken down into chapters makes it feel like an easy read. You can enjoy a chapter or two at a time and I enjoyed reading a little bit at a time before bed. But fair warning: it might keep you up at night as you want to read “just one more”. You’ll be pulled into the emotions and the dystopian worlds within.

The first few lines draw us in, as “District” takes us to another time and place. The visceral language makes you feel like you are experienced it all.

“With still-closed eyes, eyelids stuck to my skull, I twist my core and limbs in all possible directions…” Then to a surge of electrons in “Sheen” and the olden days of “Underground Syndicate” where gentlemen wore somber suits of drab and insipid fabric with neutral ties. Each chapter pulls us deeper and deeper into another world.

The prose is so beautifully written, so detailed and full of feeling, it’s as if you are living it yourself. These stories will make you think, long after you’ve put down the book. It will make you reflect more on the world around you and you may even find yourself wanting to talk to your friends about it. If you have reader friends, encourage them to get the book so you can discuss it.

“Neon Lights and Plane Tickets” was such an engaging read and I will be thinking about this cosmic poetic prose collection for a long time to come.

Neon Lights and Plane Tickets: Sci-Fi Poetic Prose Collection is a work of fiction in the dystopian, poetry, and metaphysical writing subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience owing to some moderate references to horror and violence. Penned by author Elsbeth Mareile G. C., this captivating collection promises to transport readers to vivid and imaginative worlds filled with cosmic horror and galactic urban legends. Through lush descriptions and evocative storytelling, we arrive at compact tales of dystopian societies masked by bright neon lights and illusions of technological progress.

Elsbeth Mareile G. C. has crafted a gorgeous work that allows readers to immerse themselves in different snapshots of dystopia with some really beautiful wordplay that sparks the imagination. The unique prose style effortlessly immerses readers into the intricacies of human nature and the complexities of the worlds they inhabit, yet some moments are totally relatable and draw parallels with modern life. The intimacy and alienation juxtaposed in ‘Touchscreen’ was my favorite as it explored the concept of a soul mate in the modern world. Each planet and entity is meticulously crafted, drawing readers deeper into the narrative with every turn of the page. I loved the presentation with moments of abstract art styling to keep that otherworldly feel going. From societal decay to the consequences of technological advancement, the collection explores a wide range of themes while delivering thought-provoking insights into the human condition. Overall, Neon Lights and Plane Tickets is a compelling read that will leave sci-fi and dystopian fans eagerly anticipating another volume: I know I certainly am.

Spanning an eclectic variety of subjects, while featuring polished stanzas teeming with free verse and deeply insightful mentations, Neon Lights and Plane Tickets by artist, scientist, and author Eli Alemán artfully merges the poetic and the fantastical in this collection of creative prose narratives. For Eli Alemán this is her first published work.

At the outset of reading, there is instant connection to author Eli Alemán’s poetry. It is tantalizing to the imagination. Populated with creatively fluent passages which draw the mind into often sinister and imaginative, otherworldly scenes, that shrewdly guide readers through a cultivated series of universal wonderlands brimming with themes of horror, science-fiction as well as the dystopian.

Moreover, this journey through the heart and mind of author Eli Alemán not only exceeds the bounds of imagination with inventive science fiction within poetic verses but also uncommonly delves into the common topics like Love, Humanity, Food, and Music, with works such as, Cosmic Love Theory: Infinite Cosmic BalletFood Gourmet EscapadesBloodied Veil, Acrid Skies, Visceral Cries, Melodious Rhapsody and Matchmaker Cloud just to name a few. In total there are many more as well, as the book houses a collection of over 60 poems. It offers a lot to choose from with each poem as quality as the last.

Altogether I thoroughly enjoyed Neon Lights and Plane Tickets, by Eli Alemán.   It was easy to connect with this plentiful and diverse sharing of free-flowing verses, which offered engaging, detailed imagery fueled by fantastically drawn stanzas. In fact, author Aleman’s writing is so effective that I was often left with a residue of vivid, intelligent as well as enlightening imprinting from its unforgettable passages, which did very well to hold my attention rapt. While the entire collection of poetry flowed well, was well written, and kept me entertained and attentive to the worlds built through the author’s passages, there were several that stayed with me long after I finished reading.   Some are: Sheen, Phantasmagoric Reverie, Monstrous Genesis, Touchscreen, Grimly Ever After: Forevermore Elixir, Empires of Thought, and Celestial Bodies.

Overall, while the titles alone were enough to pique my curiosity, it was the entirely distinctive nature of the poems that left me reeling with the memorable stunning vision of worlds never before experienced. This is a poetry collection that is definitely worthy of adding to the personal library of any fan of well written, uniquely posed poetic works, as it does well to leave a lasting literary impression.
