Now That You Have Seen Me
C.L. Roberts, author

Adult; General Fiction (including literary and historical); (Market)

Not all families are loving.

Not all relationships end in chaos.

And, sometimes, reality is a lie.

Farrah Glickman is a troubled, 29-year-old smartass who finds herself under the guardianship of her toxic parents following release from a mental health facility in Amherst, Massachusetts in 2015. She reluctantly opens up to her unorthodox (court-appointed) therapist, Bonnie, who requests she recount her story from earliest traumatic memories to most recent, out-of-control existence.

As they process the archives of her life, heavy with the baggage of a dysfunctional childhood and a series of very unhealthy relationships with men and just about everyone else in her life, Farrah cautiously reveals an emotional void she forever endeavors to fill with a protective combination of deflective humor, casual sex, alcohol in abundance, acute denial and Jesus hallucinations. All the while, her sanity is drifting further away, and the keeper of her safely guarded history laughs as she rows the boat into dangerous, uncharted territory.

Now That You Have Seen Me is the (sometimes dark, sometimes dirty, all times funny) story of Farrah’s unforgiving year-and-a-half long journey to the bottom of her psyche, straight from her own HUGE potty mouth.

You’ll laugh, cry, and maybe yell a bit!

Highly recommend! Pulls you in from the first few pages, making it difficult to put down once you get started! It’s hard not to root for the main character, Farrah, as you learn about her own life and experiences from her perspective. Lots of interesting characters and unexpected moments that will make you laugh and cry, and maybe yell a bit. Author is talented at writing about mental health with compassion, respect and much needed humor! Hoping for a sequel.

Now That You Have Seen Me is an exciting story about Farrah Glickman visiting a therapist, Bonnie, and re-countering her life from the earliest traumatic memory up to where she is now. Farrah is 29 and has been through many failed relationships. She has toxic parents and is dealing with many issues that are relatable to many people.

Although the premise might seem dark, many humorous sections lighten the story’s mood. I particularly enjoyed how the plot’s dynamic twisted and presented scenes that were not expected. As an avid reader, it is always delightful to be surprised.

It is apparent to witness the emotional void Farrah felt, and it is always natural to sway towards filling them with things that are not necessarily good for you.

The literature is written well and keeps the reader intrigued.  I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read fictional stories.

Epitome of dark humor

Farrah Glickman hasn't had an easy life. After being released from a mental health facility (guarded by toxic parents), she is appointed a therapist who instructs her to keep a diary. Going back through traumatic events in her life, she tells her story and finally begins to open up.

Narrated by Farrah, the writing is raw and cuts no corners. It's a grisly look at what was a grim life to start. As well as being character-driven, there's also quite a bit of intrigue which I hadn't expected going in. Always a treat. There's a lot to unpack in under 250 pages.

Farrah is an interesting character study, especially in interactions/relationships with other people. I liked the contrast between her overall narration and her journal entries. Her reaction to this exercise also packed a wallop.

'Now That You Have Seen Me' is the epitome of dark humor. What a ride this was!

Animated, engaging, shocking, funny.

I couldn't believe this story of dysfunction! I couldn't believe when the character threw the figurine in her therapist's office. She had had enough. I don't want to give other good parts away.

This is worth buying.
