Presidential Spirit This memoir Presidential Spirit is a love story of David and Gina Scheff. Two people that enjoyed perfect love together. Love could not get any better as life was so good for the two of them. They both worked at the same retail store and while on break in the breakroom one day David told Gina he worked third shift in the Eighty-Ninth Airlift Wing. He mentioned he put in a special duty assignment after reading and article in Airman magazine. He was impressed that Air Force One was manned by the United States Air Force and not the secret service. He worked at SAM (Special Air Mission) Fox or the presidents wing." David was selected to augment presidential maintenance for the 707 VC 137C aircraft. This story gives readers motivation because he fulfilled a life long military dream that come true. The first time David asked Gina out on a date, she did not take him serious at all, she thought he was joking. Gina changes jobs leaving the retail store to work at the airport cafeteria and one day David walks up to her and says he is mad at her, because she did not go out with him. They go out on their first date shopping and their relationship grew into a romance story. On Christmas Eve David asked Gina to be his bride and marry him on Valentine's Day. On that February fourteenth day they were married and became Valentines to make it the best marriage it could be. Their marrige grew each day as the two were connected, David told Gina you have my rib like Adam and Eve. David never thought of himself as a romantic man, but he was very romantic. He was a giver and showed his love with gifts. David and Gina did anything and everything together, he always told her they were partners and a team. This love story is amazing full of emotions and will make readers want to read more. David worked his way up with hard work and dedication. Gina stood right by her husband's side as David was hired full time in Air Force One and becomes the flight chief in presidential maintenance. He is the business manager for the VC-25A aircraft in Air Force One Presidential Airlift Group Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Life was good then after 911, they both decided David would retire from the United States Force. The two purchased a home in Ohio. Then the unthinkable happens, and David is not allowed to retire after Stop Loss comes into effect because we went to war in Iraq after 911. Gina leaves David behind to move to Ohio to their new home they purchased through the VA. After David and Gina are separated from his Air Force One career he finally gets to retire after Stop Loss is lifted. David continued to be a consultant for Air Force One after his retirement and he lived the Presidential Spirit. After four years of being retired David's spiritiual mind was tested as he is diagnosed with a rare cancer called cholangiocarcinoma and Klatskin tumor. He was inspirational in mental self-help which allowed him to enter chemotherapy treatments and cancer trials to help find a cure for others to fight cancer. Doctors and nurses were anmazed at David's will to survive and seek experimental treatment. This man was so upbeat and always willing to do more to be a scientific study for his cancer battle. He will always be a miracle that beat the five year survival rate. Doctors always said to David he needed to write a book, he would reply "My wife, Gina, is going to write my book." I did write this book. I stood by this man that inspired myself and so many people. It was hard to say goodbye to the love of my life. I lost my Valentine, my partner, my soulmate, and the man that brought the romance back in my life. This heartache has been a healing process that writing this book has helped me tell our story about the man I loved and was honored to call my husband for twenty-three years. Gina S. Scheff
