Here’s yet another cute and meaningful story about Ronaldo and his friend, Rudi. As the series progresses, we get to know the characters in a new and different light than in previous books. For Ronaldo, though I knew he was a kind reindeer, most of his actions reached a new level of kindness here that I just wanted to be friends with him. He acts in ways to avoid hurting other’s feelings, be there for someone who is scared, do a good deed just because he wants to help without expecting something in return, and even go as far as to give everything he has to help his friend feel better. Ronaldo is a true friend, a leader, and a reindeer who has such a sweet and giving heart, it would be hard not to love him.
Since the story is in the perspective of Ronaldo, the reader understands him better, but in this read, we also get to know Rudi a bit more. Rudi, who has his ups and downs throughout the book is also a sweet reindeer who tries his best to deal with some harsh and scary situations. What I loved about Rudi’s storyline is the reality of money issues and how it can affect a child, and how Ms. Slyvester rounds out the story by giving a clear and logical solution. I liked this choice because it introduces to children that sometimes we are limited in the things that we want, but there’s always a light at the end and it’ll be okay. Honestly, we don’t need to dig deeper than that for children. Overall, the author had a fabulous and realistic approach to something that is very prevalent around the world.
Needless to say the character development in this short read was lovely and perfect for the storyline. The plot flowed extremely well, and with its beautiful illustrations, this would be a perfect gift for children. Friendship, seriousness, humor, love, and more can easily be found throughout its pages. There is a clear direction the author is taking that even I, as an adult, am excited for the next book!
The bullying aspect is short and an interesting topic to explore here. I do hope that it doesn’t get worse because some of Ronaldo’s anger came through and that worries me for his character. Not sure if this was the book to deal with this problem more, and there does seem to be more Ronaldo coming, but it would be nice to explore this issue more.
Overall, this book was a delight to read and gives the readers a better understanding of the reindeer world as the author continues to slowly build her adorable series! I would recommend this cute book to children (and those young at heart) who have either enjoyed Ronaldo thus far or to those who would like to follow a sweet, kind reindeer and his adventures.
